Where To Submit A Short Story In February 2023? Seven Writing Contests With An Upcoming Deadline

1. Sci Phi Journal is looking for fictional non-fiction and speculative philosophy

Sci Phi Journal (SPJ) is not too fond of stories about fictional people’s sentiments and subjective experiences. Hard SF that zooms out of the personal and into the structural, the systemic, and the epic is what they want. They seek carefully crafted philosophical speculations that puzzle questions about the future and alternative pasts. They also enjoy stories created as ‘artefacts’ (fictional, ‘in-universe’ non-fiction).

SPJ is looking now for Campbellian hard SF, fictional non-fiction and speculative philosophy. There is a limit of 2000 words for stories (but preferably shorter). They’re also interested in uncovering buried and forgotten treasures written in languages other than English. Therefore, they welcome translations of short stories that fit within the sub-domains listed above, as long as they haven’t previously been translated into English or if there is a very good reason why they should be retranslated.

The standard semi-pro rate for accepted works is currently 3 (Euro) cents per word for original fiction and 1 (Euro) cent per word for translations. As of now, they don’t pay for…
