Do you have a story, poem, or book you’d like to publish? Here is some information about the writing competitions that are closing in March. If you have a manuscript in a drawer or on a disk, dust it off, maybe now it’s the time to send?

Where to publish poetry?

descant is an annual literary journal published every autumn by Texas Christian University. They look for high-quality work in either innovative or traditional forms. Every year, descant offers four different awards:

  • the $500 Frank O’Connor Award for fiction (for the best short story in a magazine)
  • the $250 Gary Wilson Award (given to an outstanding story in an issue)
  • the $500 Betsy Colquitt Award for poetry (awarded to the best poem or collection of poems in an issue by a single author.
  • the $250 Baskerville Publishers Award (to recognize an outstanding poem or poems by a single author in a journal)

Fiction submittet to descant hould have 5,000 words or fewer, and poetry should have no more than sixty lines. Reading fees and application processes are not required.
